Well today was Startlefish’s CD release party. When the planning for this first started I stated I’d help out.. my help then quickly dwindled to me not doing a whole lot. Basically slo-pitch got in the way of a lot of the meetings and well… today we had a double header that I had to play in instead of going to the release. I did however help out with the setup during the day.
Basically I was put in charge of the lighting — this was the theatre type lighting — I used to do this back in my high school days (5 years ago) but when I finished all my theatre stuff there I haven’t touched it again and thought I never would. But there I was today, running around a lighting booth trying to figure out how to power it on, the after that was figured out I ended up being high up on a ladder — yes me, the guy afraid of heights — trying to aim the lights to light the stage. Basically I was working with limited lights and limited time and the help I had was someone holding the ladder. Back in the day I was used to being on a catwalk doing one light at a time, working from above the light in pitch black with only the light on so you could see what you were doing. Not this time though. The house lights were on as others were also setting up for the big night, I aimed by guessing and tried my best — I just hope it all worked out. Because of ball I didn’t get to see the show, see the simple lights or listen to the music. Hopefully I’ll find out tomorrow how it all went. Don’t get me wrong I still had a great time at ball too.
Here’s hoping I never have to do theatre lighting again… oh who am I kidding, I’ll probably be doing it in another 5 years for some strange event.
