Batman Begins — Again

I just watched the new Batman movie tonight titled Batman Begins. After seeing it, I’m hoping that the title holds true and this is the beginning of the new Batman franchise.

Growing up I really enjoyed the Batman movies and trying to think back to them now the first two are the ones that still stick in my head, the ones everyone loved. The first having the main villain the Joker and the 2nd having it the Penguin. After the first two films however the Bat turned more “hollywood” and grabbed star power to fill every role. Some people didn’t like these movies at all and thus the franchise ended. I can’t quite remember them but I think I still liked them. But hey, I’m a geek and I’m into comics so why wouldn’t I have liked them? Although to admit, I wasn’t into comics then but I sure did like the Batman animated series that was on Fox.

This brings us to now. The new movie without giving much away (or trying not to) is basically the beginnings of Batman (so they chose a good title). Bruce Wayne probably doesn’t appear as Batman until most likely midway through the movie — instead we get an origin story and learn why he became the Bat. This was briefly touched on (well the reasoning) in the first Batman movie but this movie actually shows his development into Batman. The villains in this movie are more low key and probably only known to the fans who’ve read the comics — I haven’t and didn’t know who they were really besides my readings of the movie online. Also the ending leads into a sequel (as all comic book movies do now) as well as a pretty easy hint at who the next villain will be.. and let’s just say the actor taking the role has some big shoes to fill.

If you haven’t seen Batman Begins yet go out and see it. If you have, I hope you liked it, it’s my 2nd favourite comic book movie I’ve seen this year and yes I’ve seen many… four now come to mind anyway and here they are listed:
1. Sin City
2. Batman Begins
3. Constantine
4. Elektra (I’m sorry JGar)

(I might have missed some from this year but that’s what I remember anyway.)

Comic films I’m eagerly anticipating, Fantastic Four on July 8th and V for Vendetta which is currently in filming and I think due out in Nov or Dec.

I really enjoyed this, too. I thought ti was better than the other Batman movies by far. However, I haven’t seen the old ones in a looong time, but from memory, this one was better.

Speaking of Elektra, we caught it on PPV the other night. I must admit, it was far far better than I was anticipating it woudl be.

The new Batman movie I believe was very well done. They kept the movie dark and focused on the political instability and corruption of Gotham, which any true Batman fan knows. The acting was great, and there wasnt too much focus on technology which I believe ruined the last two Batmans.
I also believe they didnt try and promote this movie to an audience that would not enjoy it, or understand it.

Good job to DC Comics and Warner Brothers for sticking to the script
    P.S
Your right Curt, the guy who has to play the Joker in the next movie does have some big shoes to fill

[...] With all that being said. I liked this movie. Sure for diehard fans they’ve changed the story a bit here and there to tweak it better for a movie audience and to add “depth” but it still all works. It was simply a fun movie and definitely a turn from the darker Batman Begins which came out earlier this year. [...]
