Boom Goes the Dynamite

I caught the ending to a segment on the Late Show with David Letterman on Wednesday night. I guess the story was it was a “show and tell” by audience members. The show was a repeat from earlier in the year but the first time I’ve seen it so my “reporting” on this is a a little late.

Jumping into the story though. There was a guy on the show named Brian Collins who had his first run as a sports announcer go horribly bad. Basically he screwed everything up to the point where it mkaes for great comedy.

The signature line of his broadcast was when Reggie Miller of the Indiana Pacers hits a three pointer Collins comments “Passes it to the man, shoots it and BOOM goes the dynamite!”.

He continues to stumble through the broadcast as well with too many instances to point out. This was all done on university television so he never thought it’d be picked up main stream but it ended up that sports casters all over started using the phrase “Boom goes the dynamite” and Letterman had clips of many of these instances.

For your viewing pleasure here is the movie in a zip file directly from BTC (I found it online). Here however is a link to the movie on another site where it is embedded into the code. Both files are in Windows Media format.

Also, here’s a news story on CBS’s site featuring Collins’ appearance on The Early Show.

And Boom goes the Dynamite. That’s better than crabs!

That…was painful to watch. Boom goes that guys sportscasting career. His response when they thanked him was hilarious: “…Yeah” with a disenchanted sigh. Poor Brian.

Yes “painful” but providing plenty of laughs throughout. It seemed like whoever created the script for him to read — either himself or a producer couldn’t put sentences together or possibly he was just stumbling that much that nothing made sense.

One of my other favs is “Miller’s looking good and its good” or something like that voicing over as one of the Nets players is hitting a three pointer, the play after Miller’s first three.

Also him announcing the “Baseball” All Stars when it’s the Basketball all stars. Oh man. Poor guy.

Haha. Yah, I felt bad for the poor guy.I caught the end of that, too.
