Re-earned My Super Geek Stripes

This past Wednesday I finally made it back to the comic book store since June 29th or about then…

Before I go any further I’ll give some back story. I started collecting comics in February of 2004 when I was taking the class “Understanding Comics” at Algoma University. I found my local comic shop and picked up every copy of Spawn that they had on the shelf — this ended up being issues 117-132 or something like that I believe. I was well on my way to becoming addicted. I was still a “comic newb” so I didn’t know there was a “new this week” shelf or what day of the week new comics came out on (Wednesay for anyone interested). I visited the place frequently and noticed some other books that I thought I’d be interested in, the first were Ultimate Spider-man and Ultimate Fantastic Four. I now collect quite a few titles, 8 running monthly series and then some short special edition series here and there as well as some graphic novels. Because I became a frequent visitor I was able to set up a folder for them to store books in if I couldn’t make it for a particular week. This just made life simpler on me and I knew I’d more than likely get my comic.

But back to the real story.

I entered the comic shop last Wednesay with a giant list of about 20 comics I knew I was missing. I assumed my folder was long gone so I headed right to the shelves. The regular comic book guy wasn’t there or visible at this time so nobody went to get my folder if I had it, then he popped out of the back and asked if I got my folder yet and I said “I still have one?” Needless to say I was quite happy and they had the majority of my titles in my folder. The only ones missing were my dear Spawn. I was able to find one issue on the shelf but I’m now missing Issue 147 and it makes my first hole in Spawn since I’ve been collecting.

I have a few gaps in some other series and I hope to fill those in as well. 1 comic in one and 2 in another.

To finish and what gives me my “super geek stripes” back is my total at the till: $82.23. Now that’s a lot for some “simple” books.
