More Insurance Headaches

Well it seems like my possible good news that was supposed to come this week has turned into somewhat of a crappy affair. I received a call from an insurance broker in Toronto earlier in the week with an estimated quote on what they could do for me, this estimate is half of anything else I’ve heard which is great but it’s still somewhat expensive but seems like my only chance at obtaining insurance at this point. The Toronto company has impressed me since first contacting them at the end of last week, I’ve had to fill out no forms and just answer a few brief questions and the broker was on her way. After our conversation at the beginning of this week I thought all was moving smoothly, then today happened.
The broker I’ve been dealing with called to inform me of the progress of my application, she stated that the underwriter who she thought would insure me cannot as they have previously “denied” me. What the! Is there only one underwriter in Ontario who deals with anything web based? She then went on to explain why she believes I was denied by this company giving me a better explanation then the company and the previous broker who I dealt with before (I’ve even emailed the previous broker asking for a better explanation but still haven’t heard back from him). She believes it’s because they saw “music” and “web site” and assumed I’d be running a site similar to iTunes and I guess no insurance company in Canada wants to insure something like that.
I proceeded to explain to her that the music on the sites would be on the musicians OWN site and it’d be their OWN music. She understood this and said she believes that I SHOULD be able to obtain insurance and thinks the other broker wasn’t knowledgable enough and didn’t pass the information on properly.
I just want this whole process to end already. It almost seems that I would of had a better chance of getting insurance if I said I was developing porn sites.
“What are you developing?”
“Porn sites”
“Excellent we can slide you into our ‘porn package’, do you think you’ll be developing anything else?”
“Yeah, I’m working with independent musicians locally to help them get their music out to a wider audience as a web site is a great promotional tool…”
“Whoa whoa whoa, wait a second, did you say music, I’m sorry we can’t help you”
It now seems like I’ll be moving onto two months of trying to get insurance. Some of you are probably thinking, skip the insurance and just “hope for the best”. This is an option I WISH I could do but I can’t. Hopefully this will be clearer in the future. Other suggestions have been “why not just drop the music”. Easy. The music is my key market and currently my key clients, if I drop the music I’d more than likely be dropping the business and the music is what gave me my start so I’ll keep pushing for the goal line and hopefully I make it there.
And yes I know I said ‘porn package’ so all of you can think of your funny jokes to put into the comments.

“Porn package,” huh? Smart marketing move, Curt. You should let a lot of hits from certain types who Google and otherwise seek. If they are also looking for music and musicians, you’re laughing.

Well see, I think it’s part of the marketing package if you will.
Porn package, music, musicians, crabs, rock stars they all tie in to each other one way or another I’m sure.
The weird searches I get though are for “songs about crabs”, who’d want to sing about such things I don’t know but it brings in the hits so it’s all good I guess.

Man, I hope she can get the insurance crap sorted out for you. Wait a sec… I just had a thought. I’ll talk to you about it tomorrow, since you seem to be in bed and I’m headed to my own mattress. Remind me.
