Taco Bell Disappointment

We finally got a Taco Bell on this side of the border and it sucks. It’s as simple as that. We thought we’d check it out as we love Taco Bell but the one in the US and it’s staying that way. Basically the one here had 4 main menu choices none of which I liked but we ordered anyway to try it out. YUCK. That’s the only way I can sum it up, we threw out half of the food I think. So long story short, don’t go to Canadian Taco Bell if you’ve ever had American Taco Bell, you’ll be greatly disappointed.
As a side, our Taco Bell is an “add-on” to the KFC so that’s part of the small menu items but really, where’s the quesadillas?

I’ve had Taco Bell only once (Canadian) and was disappointed — not because the food was bad, but because it wasn’t Taco Time. Some might argue Taco Bell is better than Taco Time, and I don’t particularly care. I like Taco Time because it reminds me of when I was in high school in Saskatoon, and of how 6six or eight of us would pile into my rust-ridden 3-cylinder Vega (only 2 in the front — seatbelts on!) and head to Taco Time for lunch. I would have a soft taco, extra hotsauce, and a rootbeer (because rootbeer would for some reason accentuate the burn of the hot sauce). To this day, this is what I crave.
Hmmm. It’s lunch time, and there’s a Taco Time in the food court at a mall near me…

Well we’re addicted to the US Taco Bell and usually go over once a week for it even though sometimes it doesn’t agree with my insides and I’m “running for the border” LITERALLY. I have no clue what’d done different (okay different meat grades) but the quality is just so different.
When we were in Las Vegas we ate at a different taco place, I forget its name at the moment however and it was pretty good. We couldn’t find a Taco Bell on the Strip anywhere which we found as weird.

When I was a teen I went with a friend and her family to Los Angeles where there seemed to be a taco stand on every corner. We were warned that is was okay to eat at the corner stands, but to stay away from the kids with little push carts. We were teens, so naturally ignored the warnings. This is where you would expect me to say “Boy, were we sorry!” Actually, all was well — no urge to dash — and man, that was tasty food!
Incidentally…I DID pick up Taco Time today, thanks to your blog entry. My kids thank you too

All this talk about tacos is making me hungry for tacos
Maybe you can mail me a Taco Time taco so I can see what they taste like… on second thought I’ll keep my eyes open for one.

I prefer Taco Time, too. I just think the food is better quality, but you know, it’s not an option here. Actually, we don’t even have a taco bell here anymore (unless I want to eat in a campus dinihg hall, which I don’t), so that’s not an option, either. We end up making our own and buying the taco bell seasoning packets at the grocery store.
As for US grades of meat, there are 4 grades, A, B, C and D. A being the best, D being “barely fit for human comsumption.. make sure you pick all the hairs out of it first.” Taco Bell uses grade D. That’s why they’re so cheap.

Sad story, I had Taco Bell on the mini trip we just took and I think I was so excited from tasting “good” Taco Bell I bit the inside of my lip and tore part of it off creating quite the gash which didn’t stop bleeding for a bit.
Also, I know that the grades of meat are different at the Taco Bells (Canadian vs. American) and strangely enough, this is the weird taste, it’s almost like the “worst” meat tastes better in the tacos for some strange reason (Canadian Taco Bell uses a higher standard in meat).
