I Feel Horrible

On Saturday I broke down and bought a soft muzzle for Domino as his biting has gotten too far out of hand. I’m not sure if it’s just a “stage” but that’s what I’m hoping for. Basically ever so often — it was getting to be at least once a day — Domino will hit this zone where he’ll just snap and start biting at you non-stop and nothing can prevent him from doing this, toys, treats anything, he just goes crazy. We were putting him outside or in the front porch until he calmed down and this works a little bit but now he’s tentative to go outside sometimes because he thinks he is getting punished.
Enter the muzzle.
I’ve had to use the muzzle a couple of times in the last few days and it seems to work for the most part. He’ll usually spend the first 5 minutes or so trying to get the muzzle off which is actually quite funny to watch — even though it’s rude to laugh at his discomfort. He’ll usually wind down and lay in his bed then I’ll remove the muzzle. A couple of times now he has started right back up again so we remuzzled and repeated the process until all was well.
I feel bad for putting the muzzle on him but it’s our last effort to try to prevent him from biting us. I’m hoping that it’s part of his growing up and part of his teething although he seems content chewing on frozen rags or a number of his other toys most the times but then ends up snapping. It’s quite strange. Other than that he’s a great pup and doing well.

Don’t feel bad. I think you’re doign the right thing. Biting is definitely something that you need to get under control. It will just take time and patience, and eventually he will learn (hopefully).
Could there be something going on that’s stressing him out to trigger it? Does it happen in any specific pattern in relation to meal time, etc.?
