Slow Geek - A Discovery of Podcasts

Okay, so I’m a bit slow to catch onto the wave of things coming through. And about two weeks ago I figured I’d give Podcasts a looksy, so I did.

The first I checked out was CBC’s Radio3 podcast and I was quite impressed, it’s basically about an hour in length and features independent Canadian musicians, why’d I go here? Because Chris Belsito posted on his site that he was picked up in their playlists so as a supporter I went and figured out (or tried to figure out) how to do this “podcast” thing. I’ve been impressed with some of the music from Radio3 so you should check it out as well ;)

The other podcast I started browing through is ThunderbirdSix which is ran by a tech geek Pyschology prof at my old university AUC. It’s actually a pretty interesting podcast for different content that they’ve thrown out, some is general for Algoma students past and present but some are interviews with bands travelling through and some luminaries in the video game industry as Algoma is a co-host of the FuturePlay conference which is all about video games and education I think — bah I really don’t know HAHA. Anyway, ThunderbirdSix also has their podcasts available as general downloads in MP3 format off of their site.

How do you play a podcast, sign up for a podcast, cast a podcast? Beats me! I tried one player that seemed weird and I wasn’t sure if it was working or not then I went to Odeo which is basically web based and did everything from there and it seems to be working okay. I then installed the Odeo Syncr software and it downloads my podcasts when they are released (I think, it did before anyway) and takes care of all that stuff for me.

So that’s my geek adventure into podcasts, I have to be on of the worst geeks ever. Sheesh, where’s my geek cred? Here it is — I spent about 45-60 minutes today talking to the comic book guy, reason I left was Jes called me because I had my dad’s car and he was being late for work. Oh man.

EDIT: Sweet. I just found the song I kept listening to non-stop from last week’s Radio3’s podcast.
