Email OH OH

OH CRAP

Basically that’s what keeps running through my head at the moment. I’ve been having email problems for the past week easily where emails weren’t coming in or going out, they’d be delayed for about 10 hours then all of a sudden I’d receive this massive rush of mail that I should have received earlier. This isn’t good when my main contact with anyone business related is through my email.

I then contacted my server support people and they suggested I move to POP3 from IMAP as it’s supposedly better blah blah and blah. So I did. But in doing so I needed to redo my account in Thunderbird (email client, sibling of Firefox). Okay, no problem I can do this.

WAIT.

Before I jump further I’ll give you the difference between POP3 and IMAP for those who don’t know (well until you check a check box it seems), basically IMAP allows you to keep a copy of your email on the server to view online (web based, such as hotmail, yahoo, gmail etc) as well as locally (on your home computer) whereas POP3 will download the email to your local computer and remove it from the server as soon as you check with your email client at home. See I knew this and still messed up HUGE.

Back to the story.

Basically, I was grabbing all my folders and storing them locally because I knew I needed to kill this account, then not completely thinking I deleted the account to start installing the new one as POP3 and then what do I realize? My INBOX!! I forgot to backup my freaking INBOX!!! EGADS!!! The four letter words started running through my head at a rapid speed.

I have no clue what was in there and what I was saving in there but I’m sure it was important, why else would it still be in my INBOX and not in a folder. There were 32 messages, I don’t know what they were. I know some definitely were important, this is not good :(

Yikes! I feel for you , Curt. I’ve lost saved email on a couple of occasions, but not so unexpectedly. Lately I make a habit of saving nothing. Nothing saved, nothing lost.

Hopefully the senders of those really important messages will check in with you again soon. I believe those Act Now One Time Offer Hot Holiday specials end in just a few weeks…

Yeah, I usually don’t save much either but with the business running there’s documents/email conversations that need to be saved until things are cleared up.

But some good news, two files that I knew I needed I have, one a photo release form and the other my proof of insurance. I thought they were goners for sure but good ole me and my storing stuff in weird places (on my HDD).
