Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Well we didn’t go opening night like Jes wanted because we had Beauty and the Beast tickets bought further in advance then the Harry Potter tickets but we did go see it on its second night and for the late show, and what a late show it turns out to be. A 10:30 PM start for a 14 HR movie, WOWSERS.
Back to my thoughts. I’ve never read the books so most things that happen are “new to me”. I’m not a big reader as I lose attention quickly and basically never really had the time to sit down and get myself through a lengthy book (I’m a very slow reader on top of everything else). Mostly why I like comics/graphic novels as they are in short installments and you can get through them pretty quickly. But this isn’t about the movie either, let’s get back to that shall we?
I attended with two people (Jes and her friend) who have read the books and are big fans so I had the luxury of knowing what was missing from the books and how they skipped parts etc. As a casual fan simply from the movies I don’t think I missed anything and the movie seemed to fit together quite well. But for book lovers they jumped quickly through the opening 200 pages or so of the book and didn’t explain things that needed explaining for other books/movies or so I was told
Going in I knew who the “bad guy” was and also that someone died (yes I knew who but for those who don’t I won’t say). So I was waiting for these parts to happen and trying to figure out the plot points etc. I guess true fans familiar with the book already know all this but key elements being known when you don’t know anything else is kind of poopy. But even with that the movie was quite enjoyable. It’s a lot darker than the previous ones but the story can’t always be bright and cheery I guess.
I think my favorite part of the movie had to be when Voldermort put Harry in the basket of his bike and they rode off through the woods then casted a magical spell on the bike to make it fly. The bike then silhouetted the moon in a very classy shot. It’ll probably go down in movie history. At least that’s what I think anyway.

Yah, I loved that seen, too.
Well, as a movie, it was enjoyable. As a movie adapatation of a novel, it left a lot to be desired. There was entirely too much cut from it and they did leave out key points that they’re either going to have to totally scrap all together now or find some weird way of integrating them into the next movie. Heck, even just another 15mins of film added to this one (it felt way too short) to explain some key points and back-story here and there would have helped it a lot. I realize a lot of the cutting was necessary, but I do think that there were ar few points that should have been included which were not.
Dumbledore was so misrepresented in this movie, it was almost painful to watch at times.
I love watching Rupert Grint. He’s exactly how I pictured Ron in the books and he’s the best of the 3 “kid” actors. “I was standing in the hallway and then she just… walked by…. You know how I love it when they walk.” Of all the things that could have been cut to make way for more serious exposition, I’m glad that scene wasn’t one of them.
They need to do (which I guess it’s too late for now) extended versions of the HP movies like LotR did.

HAHA. Yeah there were some good lines in the movie that’s for sure.
I also felt that the 14 HRs went by quite quickly and it didn’t really seem like 14 HRs. The wait before the movie seemed almost longer.
