Social Isolation: Day 1

I’m assuming this can be considered the end of day one for the social isolation training exercise for our boy Domino. Has it worked? So far I don’t know. Has it been tough? You’re darn tootin’! That’s right, tootin’! But not farting tooting but more old western cowboy tootin’ (see the difference?).

The training started off a little rough as my sister and the kids stayed the night so they were up in the morning and didn’t really know what the plan was so he received that early morning attention. From then on however it’s been total ignoring of him which has been super tough especially when he’s acting good and wants to play.

One of the first things Dom did today after he was “up” was come into the office here with his favourite toy which we usually play fetch with and he started rubbing it against the chair for me to grab it. I was trying my best to ignore him, then he either turned into the smartest dog in the world or just got clever because he put his paw on the hydrolic handle on my chair and pushed down thus sending me down with the chair adjustment. I tried my best to hold in my laughter and tried not to look at him. He eventually got fed up and went and laid down or something.

The rest of the day he had ups and downs. For the most part he left me alone which was good but there were times where he would just sit beside me and howl for my attention. Also about 30 mins before dinner time he was in here again trying to get my attention to feed him. I was able to ignore him for about 15 minutes then he gave up and went for a nap. This was good. OH OH. Enter the kids and my sister again. He woke up and went running downstairs so I decided to feed him now as he wasn’t whining for the food and it would keep him away from the kids etc.

One minor set back which happened today is that he peed in the hallway up here. I don’t know if he turned into a clever dog again and was thinking if he pissed in the hall right in front of us we would have to give him attention or if he was just a pissed off dog and felt like pissing in the hall to teach us a lesson.

I think the training is going pretty good so far. I guess we’ll see how tomorrow turns out. Hopefully this does work and he calms down a bit. I don’t expect the super chewing to stop but as long as the attacking of people does I’ll be happy.

More things to remember (from obedience lady):
    -don’t look at him
    -don’t talk to him
-absolutely don’t touch him, this even includes pushing him down if he jumps

I guess if he jumps you have to walk away and act like it didnt’ happen. If he’s getting really bad you’re supposed to tie him around your waist and take him with you wherever you go.

Um…tie him around your waist? Oh, you mean using a leash ;-)

HAHA. That’d be good stuff, his ears are possibly long enough… well okay I’m not “that” skinny I’m actually quite tubby now for a skinny guy. I’m a tubby skinny guy, that’s sad :(

I just got a great mental image of you walking around with Dom tied around you by the ears.

HAHA. That’d be hilarious. He’s actually started whipping people with his ears. He smacked Jes in the face I think a couple days ago which hurt and now he just whapped me in the leg and it hurts. It’s sad when your dog’s ears are violent objects.
