Sponsorship Anyone?

Well it’s almost that time of year again, the time when a group of youngish 20somethings decide to pretend they are athletic and take to the baseball fields in what is commonly known as the team sport of slo-pitch.

To not waste any more time I’ll jump straight to the point. We need a sponsor this year.

Our first two years we were sponsored by our university as well as the student association there. This made complete sense as we were still students during those years or at least most of us were anyway. Last year we were funding through many generous donations from friends, family, coworkers at different businesses and even through donations online (who said that wouldn’t work?). We actually faired pretty well last year and won the Co-Ed Recreational division playoffs. So basically we’re not a bunch of hacks.

If you are no where near the vinicity of us that’s perfectly fine. Don’t you think it’s time your company/friends/dog started marketing themselves in different markets? It’s always a good time to expand your horizons is what I say.

Basically I’m throwing the feelers out there.

For a bit of background on us you can see our team web site from last year. In a nutshell we’re all in our 20s with most of us graduating in the past year or two with some of us still working our way through university. Enter student debt. We’re also a group of youth who prefer to stay and try to find work in our fair dying city instead of move down south (Southern Ontario) and continue the out-migration.

Call us crazy.

Anyway this is me putting the feelers out there. It’s not really “that much” to sponsor us and you get to name us whatever you want. WHATEVER you want. We’ll have jerseys as well (which we’ll buy ourselves — unless you want to pitch in for them as well ;)). I’m not a good “seller” I guess but if you’re interested let me know.

Thanks.

Is it expensive to sponsor? I’m thinking that a group of 20ish folk playing agains other groups of 20ish folks are likely big music consumers. Perhaps some of those bands you build websites for might pitch in together to get their names on a jersey? Perhaps those same bands would also perform at the most fun wind-up party ever, maybe even as a fundraiser of some sort. Just thoughts.

    I think it’s around $1150???

  3. Cujo Says:

Well we’re the 20ish folks, there’s one or two teams of other 20ish folks (I think) but then the rest have varying ages so I guess you can consider us (the league) as a group of 20-50ish folks who are music consumers ;)

League fees for the past 3 years have been $1125 CDN and I’m assuming they are not going up. Because our team is in good standing with the league we received $100 back of this so realistically we’re looking for $1025 CDN to cover league fees and that’s it. Not too shabby I guess.

Yes, but then we would have to tranfer the expense to the consumer….and that would never be acceptable, now would it? Business ain’t pretty and, as April Wine sings, “rock and roll is a vicious game.”

  5. Cujo Says:

But not necessarily. Maybe this will bring you consumers. Not saying you don’t have any but I was at your last show at Loplops ;)

And if you have more consumers then you’re selling more product so no increase in cost is needed.

You know, maybe a small business loan for advertising is in order from Murderfly, then a co-operative advertising effort from various music scene individuals and Murderfly could produce the ultimate baseball/music combination - renamed “The Cowbells”….could happen…

Or just rob a bank and call your team ” The Bank Robbers”

Hohmann-Becker Productions would love to chip in, but truth be told, the next extra couple grand floating around should end up going toward a DV camera. Is there any other way we could help? We do our own gonzo local news and weather on the fly bits…just a bit of fun, really…but, I don’t think we’ve ever done a local sport piece. Perhaps we should talk.

Ross, Murderfly Multimedia would love to sponsor the team but seeing as so far I’ve paid out more than I’ve brought in it’s kind of tough.

(I actually had another thought here but one Mr. Domino was being the big suck that he was and ruined it)

Mark, hmm, a sports piece on us. It could fly possibly. Moreso if we make fun of ourselves I think, basically pretend like we’re in the majors or something and we’re at spring training. Hmm… maybe it’s late and maybe I’m dumb.

Corporate sponsors will get box seats to all of our games!!!!!!!!!

  10. Ross Says:

Box seats Darci? Or boxes for seats? Nothing beats a nice cardboard box under your butt for sitting on.

  11. Kelli Says:

    Except a wet cardboard box….

  12. Ross Says:

This is true…..so to recap…only dry cardboard boxes for sitting on.
