More V for Vendetta Info - 2 Reviews, 3 Interviews
Posted in Movies by CujoFebruary 16th, 2006 - 11:16 PM
Okay, the marketing machine is heating up and V for Vendetta is getting a large push. If you’ve been following the blog you should know where I stand on this, it’s probably one of more most anticipated movies of the year I guess. Part of that is the delay, part of it is I liked the graphic novel quite a bit.
Anyway, here goes.
Review 1 - favourable
Review 2 - not favourable (also linked from inside review 1).
I think Review 2 smashed the movie to bits as the site’s slogan is “A Forum for Conservative Thought on Film” and well this film is sort of against goverment. I stopped reading the second review as I was getting sleepy (this was last night) but the reviewer thinks the movie was made about the current situation with the Bush administration etc. Actually the movie is based off the graphic novel written in early 80s (82 through 85) in Britain assuming different things looking into the future. Basically predicting “bad” outcomes to elections etc. But enough of that judge for yourself. But I was trying to be unbiased and put up both reviews.
Also these interviews just appeared as well (well to me because I just checked a site and found the links ;)).
Natalie Portman - I read this one, she has some insightful thoughts in it, as well she should have, she’s a Harvard grad and all.
Hugo Weaving - other main character in the story, plays V
James McTiegue - director
The interviews also have pictures thrown about them to give you a feel for the movie.
And I must add one more time. The posters are simply cool. I need to get my hands on some of them *wink* *wink*

No no silly fellow… V is for Vagina, as in Vagina Monologues.
Yes, it’s time for a shameless plug and I will be spamming blogs about it shortly but you get to be first, since you brought it up.
The Vagina Monologues plays at Algoma University College March 2 to 4.
Tickets are $10 each, Thursday is two for one night and funds raised go to Women in Crisis. I hear it’s a great date or girlfriends thing. I also believe it could be very educational and entertaining.
The reason I’m telling you about it? I’m in it. I will be standing on stage to talk about my vagina. Well, actually my characters’ vaginas. I’ll be doing more than one monologue.
If nothing else, you’ll be completely desensitized to the real V word when the play is done and you’ll have donated money to a worthy cause. It would also be cool to have some shots of it, if any camera weilding photo hobbyist were so inclined. Especially if said photography enthusiast could shoot without a flash.
Nice photos of Jodi Alton and the One Night Stand Band, btw. Very nice photos, Curt! Very nice photos with no flash.
Okay, I’m starting to feel a little ashamed of this plug.

In 2002 (or 2003, i forget) they were doing a Vagina Monologues (I feel naughty just typing it!) and I tried to get them to let me do a monologue on why Vaginas (word and body part) intimidated men. Never got a good response.
I have never seen the play - is it all scripted or would it be different every time? I am not even sure if my request made sense, but I had a really good bunch of ideas for it. I was a little discouraged when I got blackballed, so I never went to the play. I think I was also otherwise booked when the date finally came around. But my questions still stands about the scripting.
Was my idea way off base?
PS I realize that this comment thread is probably about as off topic as they can get. But I can’t resist an excuse to talk about Vaginas.

H is for Hijacked.
Has my blog just been vaginaed? Also another “off topic comment”. I think I’m going to be getting a different sort of audience in the next week or so with the name of the blog and this conversation. Hmm. More visitors the better I guess.
Gabe — the play itself is scripted. I know depending on group putting it on etc some stories may be added or whatever. Also it’s a lot of short monologues so depending on cast I take it the number and variety of the ones performed will probably be different. I don’t know.
As far as you wenting to perform I think you were discriminated against. That’s righth I said it.
Shria. As far as shooting one of the performances it’s a possibility. It might depend on how busy I am at the time. I think I’m almost “professional” enough to pull off the “press” thing and get all of the “press perks”. There are press perks in the Soo right? Please tell me there are press perks.
And to get back on topic. You all better go see V as in V for Vendetta. Natalie Portman stars in it and last I checked she also had a vagina so there you go. I tied all my comment into one.
This post is taking such a horrible horrible turn that it can’t get out of HAHA.

The last you checked, Natalie Portman had a vagina? When the hell were you able to check that?!?!?!

If possible I’ll go double check for you, make sure Natalie Portman does in fact have one. No problems there.

I’m pretty sure it’s a safe bet that Natalie Portman has a vagina.
As for our monologues, we have 9 actresses (I think - don’t feel like digging out my notes to check). I am doing a monologue that defends men. It’s called, ‘Because he liked to look at it.’
Some of the monologues are actually multilogues with more than one woman reading/reciting the script together. I am also in three of those.
Some of the monologues are pretty intense, most are just funny, a few are intensely funny. The play is meant to be a fun way to raise money for a good cause (Women in Crisis) and raise awareness of women’s issues.
Of course we’d like to see some men become more aware of women’s issues, and we really appreciate the support of the enlightened men who are aware of women’s issues.
I suppose there are press perks at times. Not many that I’ve seen. But in this case, if you show up with a camera, Curt, I’ll give you a ticket, and one for your companion too!
