Crap Is Crap

I’ve been following Canada’s efforts at the Olympics since opening day tracking all of the athlete’s wins and losses but for some reason one major “upset” has overshadowed everything else Canada has done at the Games. Or so it seems to me.
For those of you who don’t know. I guess you haven’t turned on your TV, read a newspaper or went anywhere online (maybe you don’t live in Canada and aren’t bombarded with this) but Canada’s men’s hockey team lost. They didn’t win gold, they didn’t win a medal, they didn’t even make it to the medal round losing to a better Russian team. Let’s end it there.
Every single sports broadcaster I see is writing an article, spewing a rant on TV or doing whatever they can to say where Canada went wrong and who should have been or shouldn’t have been on the team and are picking and tearing apart every aspect of “what went wrong”. Let’s just say crap is crap. The team played like crap for the majority of the tournament so they left with crap. Easy as that, move on.
Yes I’m a strong hockey fan but we can’t let one outing and one loss of a medal overshadow what the entire Canadian Olympic Team is doing at these games.
For many today is a day of mourning because the mighty Canadian’s are not repeating as gold medalists. But 2002’s Gold was our first in a LONG time at the Olympics and other nations play hockey and have been doing it for a long time as well. I still think Canada holds the majority of elite hockey players but the other nations are quickly cathing up.
But moving on.
Instead of discussing hockey why aren’t these same broadcasters moving on and talking about our record medal haul at these Olympics. Or about Cindy Klassen and her 4 medals in speed skating currently — she has one more chance at a medal in the 5000K race. Canada’s female athlete’s are actually cleaning up quite nicely at the games keeping Canada within the Top 5 of nations in the medal standings and with women’s curling winning bronze this morning we currently move into a tie for 2nd with 19 medals. Also add to that a guarantee of a medal in men’s curling with Canada playing in the gold medal game and some of our other athlete’s ready to make a charge at medals of their own and everything is looking pretty good for the Canadian Team. If you look at those athlete’s who fell “just out of the medals” Canada currently has nine fourth place finishers which is definitely something I can see them improving on for the next Winter Games which just so happen to be taking place in fabulous Vancouver, British Columbia.
Yes our men’s team lossed and that’s probably the only medal a lot of people really cared about us winning anyway. But look to the other side of this. Canada as an entire team is doing damn good and let us not have a loss interfer with all the triumphs that we are having at these games.
And that’s my Olympic rant.

agreed CO. Canadians over all (especially the women) are kicking ass at these Olympics. We have nothing to be ashamed of and oodles to be proud of. I think the hockey loss was just so devistating because hockey is truely a Canadian past time…it’s OUR freakin’ game and no one else can have it and now some one else has it and now I’m sad. If only I had worn my Team Canada jersey at work that day…they woulda won…it’s all my fault…don’t retire, Gretzky!…I’ll make it up to you!!….
…I have to go take my meds now…

Yes I know, sometimes I say intelligent things. Sometimes.
