Busy Week

Well I’ve been slow on updates lately as I’ve been quite busy to say the least.
Last week was probably the most hectic week at the job so far. I spent little to no time at all in my office and probably three consecutive days on the phone with outside tech support for different software issues that were happening. It sucked, I hated it. Coming in this week I thought everything was working fine now and hoped that I could move on from that problem. I was wrong, more problems with the same software. Shoot me.
In house news we’re getting closer to finishing. Priming has been started and the upstairs (except for the “bad” bedroom) is complete. Last night we (Jes, Ross and I) started putting the trim back onto the baseboards. This involved cleaning the baseboards and cleaning the trim — sounds easy enough — but remember we don’t think this house has been cleaned in the 65 years that it has been in existance. The baseboards had this black line of something where the top of the trim met and we tried EVERYTHING to remove this with nothing working. The trim also has the same something on it and we’re able to get most of it off of there because lots is on the back and it doesn’t matter if we ruin the finish there or not. Now to enlighting you to the steps in cleaning the trim which seems to be a straight forward job.
- find correctly numbered piece (all the trim is mapped out for the rooms and numbered for where it goes — good job Ross )
- scrap with a mini scrapper tool getting the layered gunk off
- wash with steel wool and Murphy’s Oil
- wash again with another scrub brush type thing
- dry with paper towel
- put trim in spot it goes waiting for it to be nailed back on
Not too bad of a task if there wasn’t 40 million pieces I guess. Okay, maybe I’m just complaining lots now but we have been working on the place for two months now. But the downstairs is now all trimmed up and cleaned in that respect and took us about three and a half hours to do yesterday. Hopefully we’ll tackle the upstairs in the upcoming nights. Also accomplished during the weekend were more mudding/patching of holes in the walls — some spots need professional help. I think I also picked out a paint colour for the office but I also think Jes has stolen said paint colour and has now deemed it the bedroom colour. The kitchen floor sanding job was completed as well and now some minor cleaning and it will be ready for some varathaning, it looks quite good and will be one of those “you’ll either like it or hate it” type of things. I’m sure there was more “house stuff” done but that’s all I can remember right now.
I redid (again) some minor updating work on a web site that seems to never end. Small problems continually pop up here and there which slow things done. I hope to get this done done sometime this week. Just need a couple of hours combined work on it. It’s getting there.
Tonight is Domino’s first
obedience lesson. I need to buy him a leather leash for it as well as make up some small bite size treats for him to act as a reward during the exercises. I’ll possibly do the treat thing at lunch time or when I get home from work tonight.
On the other pup news he’s still not born yet. The mother dog showed signs of labour last Monday but last we heard (last night) there were still being stubborn and staying in. Although the report last night said that she was nearing labour so they were possibly born during the night. We still need to think of a name for the new little guy but I’m sure we’ll settle on one shortly. A plus is that he didn’t end up being born on my father’s (March 2) or Jes’s sister’s (March 1) birthdays.
And that there is the busy week update.
I still plan on putting up a picture post of our journey to Fort Creek last weekend. We went again on Sunday of this week but I didn’t bring the camera along.
