Lazy Forecast

I just checked the weather forecast mainly because I’m addicted and it’s that inbetween weather we’ve been having where it’s winter one day spring the next and I’m really anxious for spring and now this is a run on sentence and not even my point. Anyway back to the story…

Current Weather Forecast: Showers in the vicinity.

What the hell is that? Is it raining here. No. So don’t say there’s showers “near” here, how about we get the weather report for here. Or on rainy days are we going to have a report that says “sunshine in the vicinity” to make us all feel happy?

And this isn’t a “shadey news agency” either, this is Mr. USA’s “The Weather Channel”.

I always watch the forecast too… weird obession of mine!! Anywho ya… they are pretty crappy… one day this summer they said sunny periods with a few clouds and it was literally pouring at the time.

This is I like Winter. And Spring is cool too but this Wring or Sprinter we’re going through blows. The change of season/mid-season jumble crap is what sucks.

I think the weather office folks are playing funky with the language just to make sure we’re all paying attention. Either that or they’re ticked off that we’re always ragging on them for being so wrong with their forecasts.

Either way, Internet-based weather forecasting tools have made it immensely enjoyable for amateurs like me to play weatherperson. Such fun!

Showers in the vicinity would indicate that conditions are right in your area for convective build-up, so keep an eye on your lower and middle etage cloud, which could build and puke moisture not just near, but overhead.

I suppose they could have just said you have a 30-50% (or whatever) chance of showers.

I love weather stuff. A lifetime ago it was my job to observe and report weather. The info I sent was then used by forcasters, who live in some land far away under a metropolitan rainbow…

Carmi: thanks for stopping by and congrats on your PCB award.

Anita: I’ll just pretend like I understoon what you said ;)

My main concern was it was the little image that said “Showers in the vicinity” if it was a full report that said “Current conditions are sunny skies, partly cloudy with showers in the vicinity giving a 30% chance of rain” it’d all make sense. But no, it was the little weather icon, a picture of a sun with clouds that underneath said “showers in the vicinity”. Hmm, maybe that’s what I said in my words and that’s the picture representation but then again when I see that picture I just expect to see “partly cloudy”. Maybe it’s me. I will now put my dream of weatherman stardom to the side :( ;)
