Drumroll Please…

The decision is in, the order has been placed. That is all.
Okay just kidding, for those of you on the edge of your seats my decision is as such:
MacBook Pro 17″
100 GB 7200 RPM HDD (customization)
2 GB RAM (upgrade)
(and the rest of the common specs of it).
Why the MacBook Pro?
There were a number of deciding factors. First and foremost it’s not “technically” my money and if I was making the purchase with my own money I probably wouldn’t have even been able to touch any Mac for that matter. Also on the money front why not get the best piece of equipment you can get at the time (knowing it’ll be outdated in 2 months isn’t going to phase me).
Yes there have been reports of the MBP getting hot and having a whining noise but there’s also been a lot of counter claims to this as well especially as more and more releases come down the line. And in general don’t you always hear more from people complaining then people who are happy with whatever simply because the happy people really have no vendetta to go out of their way to state their opinion. My thinking is that Apple knew about the 15″ MacBook Pro problem while developing the 17″ and (I’m hoping they) solved the problems that they were having — or remedied them slightly anyway.
I wanted a computer that would last me for approximately 5 years. I’m confident in the MBP. I’ll probably eventually get another (desktop) system in between this time but will still use the MBP for onsite work etc. It just seemed like the logical choice.
So in 20 days (I’m thinking longer) I should be the proud new owner of a MacBook Pro 17″ as well as a host of other goodies that I bought along with it (I’ll discuss those more when that day comes).
20 days? Yes, that’s what I was quoted, 7-10 days for customization and the standard 7-10 days for delivery.
As a side note I tried researching issues with the current MBP 17″ but nobody has them yet. And no I couldn’t wait so hopefully my early adoptiveness doesn’t bite me in the butt and my turn to Apple will be a good one.
