James Case and Startlefish - May 12
Posted in Friends / Music / Photography by CujoMay 14th, 2006 - 12:14 PM

This Friday Jay Case and Startlefish (v 2.32032x) played Loplops Lounge here in the Sault. Case opened the show with one set of acoustic performance followed by the new Startlefish playing two sets of mostly new material. I wasn’t feeling the greatest and only stayed until after Startlefish’s first set. I was however able to shoot some photos and you can find them through the photo gallery link on the right or through the handy link below.

I NEED to get on this Startlefish train, it’s like they are everywhere… I mean EVERYWHERE and they are so photogenic. I lick Startlefish.

Great shots! I wish we could have got out to that - (Ed Young is too cool).

Startlefish is good and the new lineup has a cool sound, also check out the other originals on the scene. Big Wheel and the Spokes are crazy cool with a funk vibe, Jay Case solo (and with Frank “Coonskin Hat” Deresti sometimes backing him up) are great shows, Chris Belsito Band etc etc. Definitely some great local music being played.
Ed Young is cool especially with his homemade eggies (that what I call them I’m sure he has some sort of professional name but eggies is more marketable I think). You gotta watch him sometimes because he’ll promise cowbell but there won’t be cowbell but then sometimes he’ll make it up with a 5 minute Cowbell Concerto.
Speaking of which if you definitely want to check out a funky original (hard as hell to photograph) show check out an Ed Young / Cliff Alloy Percussion Extravaganza show (my name that I gave it as well) which I’m sure there’s a new one coming up soon.
Also, shots were taken with my Canon 20D using my Tamron 28-75 lens at an f/2.8 for those of you who want to know, there’s more info but I’ll leave it out for now. Flash not fired.

Craig, I think I will. I live vicariously through the blogposts that you and others do for the shows. You guys are SO photogenic, it’s like I can’t look away. I really have no excuse for not going to any shows except it’s past my bed time. *coy smile*
Thanks for tuning in, you should comment more. I’ve had your blog on my roll for some time now. You guys might want to put http://www.startlefish.com on RSS mode. I’d put it on my feed and pimp it all day long.
I wonder if Ed would trade me a bag of his chocolate chip cookies for some of my lemon ones?

I suspect Ed might be interested in such a trade. He does have a sweet tooth. I will pass your offer along, and check into the RSS feed.

How do I set up RSS mode? My apologies for for what is likely a silly question, but I really have no idea.

And going off topic to answer Anita’s question because you are set up on Blogger you have a feed known as Atom (equal to RSS but a little different), for information on setting that up read this link in the Blogger Knowledge Base:
http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=698&query=rss&topic=0&type=f
At the bottom it says for RSS you need to try a third party site like FeedBurner and I think with that (I’ve never used it) you set up your site at FeedBurner then you get a customized link to put on your site and people get your RSS feed that way.
RSS = Really Simple Syndication and people use it to read blogs quickly in RSS readers etc, saves them time from going to your site if they don’t want to go to the site etc (Atom is similar).
