Would You Like Some Eggs With Your Spam?

About a week and a half ago I upgraded the software running the blog to Wordpress 2.whatever the latest was from 1.whatever the version there was (I’m really good at keeping track of these things).Ã? Ever since this happened however I’ve been getting bombarded with huge amounts of spam (averaging about 70-85/day).Ã? Luckily I have multiple spam protection put in place with comment moderation as well as a spam plugin but it’s getting quite insane.Ã? I used to only get about 5 or so a day and it was simple enough but the huge jump occurred right after the upgrade.

I’m not sure if this is just coincidence or not but has anyone else noticed a jump in spam coming into their blog (ran by Wordpress of course) after you upgraded to version 2 of the software?Ã? Or has my blog just reached that timeline on the web where it’s not open to being picked up by the majority of spam bots (Damn you spam bots!)

Why am I complaining if it is all caught you asked?Ã? I think it’s playing some funky games with my stats which sucks as I liked to track my stats for the most part.Ã? I’m also on “waiting lists” for stat packages which are aimed at blogs (forget the names at the moment) but we’ll see what happens there, can anyone else recommend a nice stats package (free of cost of course because it is only my blog) that works good?Ã? I currently just use AWstats and it does a fairly decent job but with the influx of spam I’m thinking the numbers may be off.Ã? Mint is a nice package but I’m cheap ;)

Ugggh! I’ve gotten more spam since that upgrade than I can manage to count. When I do check my “spam-catcher”, I’m still getting upwards of 75 spam comments a day - mostly for a drug I won’t name, cause I don’t want your spam-catcher to catch it. Actually, you may never see this comment, for the number of times I’ve typed the word “spam”.

Yes that’s the spam I’m getting, also a banking spam as well. I’m pretty sure you won’t get tossed into the spam file as you have an approved email account so you’re safe.

Here’s the running total right now (for about a week and a half): 774 caught spam messages since installed.

Hmm… Well, I’ve already blocked 25,949 spam comments over the last 5 months, so I guess this gives me another reason not to upgrade to WP2. I have other blogs that are running WP2, though, and haven’t had any issues with comment spam.

I don’t know any stat packages, but I do know of a rockstar package that might be available to you LOL
