A Real Man

A wise person once said you’re not a real man until you put up a fence, plant a tree and fix a toilet.Ã? I’m not exactly sure who this person was but I’ll agree with them.

After about a six week love hate relationship the fence is nearing completion, no I did not do it all on my own but I was a major player in it so I’ll check that off for part of the criteria.

Earlier today Jes headed to Canadian Tire and then arrived back home in about ten minutes.Ã? She found the tree she wanted for the front yard but needed help transporting it in the van.Ã? Another thirty minutes later and we were back at home with our new Crimson King Maple tree on the sidewalk waiting to be planted.Ã? Shovel in hand I began digging a hole for our new friend for the front of house.Ã? After the long fight with the fence I thought my hole digging was done but I guess I was wrong.Ã? If you haven’t seen our front “lawn” it’s basically a heavy travelled hard packed mound.Ã? I won’t even call it grass.Ã? I ended up getting the hole dug in about an hour and we then began the planting of the tree.Ã? Jes named it Harry Potter, as a consolation she let me name the lilac tree that is at the side of the house so I quickly came up with Marv.Ã? Here’s hoping for a long life to our latest addition to dehickify the house.

After the tree happenings we began cleanup as we planned on heading out for dinner. Oh no, the toilet is broken. Off to Canadian Tire again to buy some parts and twenty minutes later voila I fixed a toilet. It even flushes better than before.

So there you have it, I made the full transition into real manhood and I have the facial hair to prove it.

Another wise man also once said, “Those yim yams are so dumb they don’t even know what soup is.”

I’m pretty sure she does as I remember her talking about that before, can’t quite remember what it is now but I’m sure when she reads this she’ll get all giggly and won’t stop laughing for a bit.

I do remember homerpotterplant, but I had to name the tree Harry Potter after Curt refused to let me name Fozzie anything Harry-related. Curt also recently set up a new website without asking me first for name ideas and I brilliantly suggested blogwarts.com but of course someone else already has the site - isn’t that the greatest name ever?

[...] After Gillian posted on Curt’s blog that I should name my new tree homerpotterplant, it caused me to think back to the good ole’ days of 1993/1994 when we used to get together a lot and do a lot of really goofy things. I can’t entirely remember where homerpotterplant came from, but I do remember that Homer Simpson’s head was drawn on a paper plate and hung somewhere. Can’t remember why, but I’m sure if Gillian reads this she’ll let me know. Anyway I was reminiscing with Curt and telling him about how we wrote a great Beatles poem and I just had to go find it. I could only remember the first few lines off my heart, but I found a handwritten copy (about 12 years old now) and I just have to share it. [...]
