Great Canadian TV… Seriously

Jes and I were channel surfing tonight and we weren’t really finding anything worth watching.Ã? We then stopped on CBC as what was on the screen caught our eye.Ã? The show quickly had us hooked and we were there for the next thirty minutes.

In what has to be one of the funniest off the wall shows I’ve seen in awhile we were mesmorized by Princess Lucy and the rest of the freak orphans of the stop motion show called What it’s Like Being Alone (CBC site, official site).

I can’t even describe the show as it really is that unique.Ã? From Seymour Talkless the orphan with one large eye who doesn’t talk to Sammy Fishboy the drunk who loves his mermaid statue.Ã? And the one liners the show starts throwing out you simply don’t expect them.Ã? The web site (CBC one) has some sound clips and some were from the show tonight (EP 3 of 13).

So for those of you in Canada be sure to check them out next Monday at 9:30 PM on your local CBC station. For those in the US or elsewhere I have no clue how you can get to see this.

You’ll have to call and remind me… How bad is it, when you forget to turn the television on?! Maybe that should read, “How good is it?” Anyway, I missed most of CSI last night, ‘cuz I forgot about the boobtube, and my whole week may be ruined now. Now you want to get me attached to something all shiny and new. Canuckian, even! If you want me to watch your new fave, you’ll have to send reminder pigeons. And help me find the remote.

Reminder pingeons could be possible but I think Dom and Foz would eat them before they were sent off.

For a couple of brief “what it’s like” type things go to the CBC link (the underlined name one in my post) then click on Lucy (the thing in pink and listen to some of the sounds, Lucy’s and Sammy’s are probably the best). After that go back to the main screen and click on Sammy (the green guy with the bong), this will take you to the videos and my favorites there are “A Time For Dancing” and “Lucy and A Special Friend”

    CBC inspiring creativity
    Fox taking others creativity

If Canada is lacking in a cultural identity it is because of the American media that we get flooded with. Take pride in Canada art, literature, music and media entertainment. We will regret it if we loose it.
