Net Neutrality - Help Explained by Jon Stewart of The Daily Show

For those of you who don’t know, the US Congress is trying to pass a bill on Net Neutrality which will allow the US Telcos and other providers to charge premium fees for access to certain sections of the Internet.Ã? For example they can cut off Google or Yahoo and to be able to access these sites you would need to pay an additional fee.Ã? This would create a two-tiered Internet in a sense.

I’m no expert on the situation but you can read up on it on Wikipedia’s Net Neutrality page or check out Save the Internet a site promoting Internet freedom.

Jon Stewart of the Daily Show has shed some light on the situation just recently on his show and I think it’ll catch anyone “not in the know” up to speed on who is making the decisions.Ã? Video of Jon Stewart on Net Neutrality on YouTube.

If you’re still learning about the subject, you should visit http://handsoff.org as well, this being an org. my company works with — it’s the group opposite Save The Internet. I’d like to say we’re a little less hysterical, too. (The Internet is already tiered, for example.)

Plus, Jon Stewart simply addressed Sen. Ted Stevens, whom there’s no great surprise, doesn’t know a lot about tech issues. That’s why it’s smart that his bill doesn’t try to make any big decisions — but leaves it to the FCC.

    Hope that helps.
