Blogelation - Second Stage Day One

Well day one has officially ended on the Second Stage. I unfortunately was not able to attend a large chunk as I had a prior commitment to my slo-pitch team (which I also run). Picture above is Al Wood and the Rhythm Section; lead singer/harmonica was Al Wood, bass Frank Deresti, guitar Lindsey Pugh, and drums Cliff Alloy. I arrived midway through their set and because most people did not see me earlier I spent the majority of my time saying hello to everyone and getting caught up on what has happened so far. I barely had time to get the camera out and take any shots but I did manage a few — unfortunately they aren’t that good. The band seemed in fine shape however.

Following up Al Wood and closing out the night was Gates of Winter, I’ve never seen them perform before and they were definitely the opposite of what Al Wood and the Rhythm Section were playing. Gates came at us hard and loud and kept the crowd a great size through the majority of their set. I thought their style of music would probably put off some of the audience but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and what the Sault had to offer.

I was also down at the Second Stage at the start to catch the first half of Shauna Major’s set which I enjoyed while I was able to. Unfortunately other matters needed to be attended to and thus I couldn’t stay.
Tomorrow night should be good if not better with a wide range of musical delight from the funky/blues stylings of Big Wheel and the Spokes (CD release afterwards at Loplops) to the reggae renditions of 12 Gauge Ready. Come check out what the Sault has to offer.

[...] Man, you gotta be quick these days. Seems like others have beat me to it. Nevertheless, I have some thoughts. First, this event sounded amazing, meaning those in change of sound (Crank Sound) did a fantastic job. Second, the musical groups were well chosen. It became quite evident after the third act that Rotary Fest Second Stage selected the top musical acts–they all performed well. Two things really stuck out for me–firstly, the vocal harmonies from Chris Belsito Band, and secondly how well Gates of Winter performed. This type of metal is tough to pull off, and Gates sounded great and didn’t scare aware the old people. Quite a feat. [...]
