Pirate of the St. Mary's - Buskerfest Sault Ste. Marie

Day two of Buskerfest is upon us. Jes and I arrived early to get good seats and to try to catch the shows we missed on the first day. We were even early enough to catch Sault Ste. Marie’s own Pirate of the St. Mary’s aka Canadian Mark Hohmann getting the festivities warmed up with the pipes. Mark being the good gracious pirate that he is forgot to say anything after his show and closed his case up before people were able to give him money. Luckily Trulee Odd was on next and told Mark to open his case back up and Trulee Odd made an announcement over the PA that yes the Pirate is a busker.

To start the main festivities off was Trulee Odd Show. We caught his show on the first night (covered in my previous post) but this time I had the camera ready from the start and he switched up his act a bit with using rope balancing instead of a unicycle for his finale. Once again Trulee Odd Show had the small morning audience in the palm of his hand and definitely warmed the crowd up for the next performers.

Up next was Jeff Hill and Jes the Busker? Hmm the things you learn about people when you go to Buskerfest.

Jeff Hill is a magician / fire eating busker from Toronto. Being honest I was not quite impressed with the start of his show as I’m friends with the Sault’s own all star illusionist Ryan McFarling so I usually have high expectations from magicians and the like and was able to see how the initial illusions were performed. They were his “warm up” tricks however and he picked it up as the show went on with his ring routine, the razor blade swallowing and his escape from the straight jacket. I think the now growing audience was quite impressed.

The post and photo gallery for today was going to be huge so for the daytime part I’m dividing it up into three parts. This one here, one featuring just the acrobats the Coralies, and another featuring the USA Break Dancers. We’re also heading back later tonight to catch the ending of the day’s festivities and then into Loplops for the adult themed busker show happening there — tickets are $10 and available at the bar.
