Semi-Productive Weekend

Well another long weekend has come and gone and everyone was supposed to be productive with their last full true days of summer. I can say I almost got things accomplished that I wanted to.
We started tackling our ghetto house image again this weekend and I think our standing is now 42% less ghetto looking (making us still 58% ghetto). The van seats are still in front of the garage but most of the other garbage/debris that was there is either picked up or piled nicely in appropriate places ready to go to the dump when we can make a trip. We also raked the backyard of all the little helicopters that fell from the trees (I honestly don’t know their real name so if someone can chime in and know what I’m talking about that’d be great). We still don’t have grass back there but we do have a nice layer of dusty dirt — when the hounds start running it almost seems like a rodeo — I’ve never been to a rodeo and I don’t really know what one looks like so just go with me on that one. It still needs a lot of work but the progress can definitely be seen (if you were at our house maybe 3 months ago) so we’re happy with that. We also started moving the abundance of sandstone rocks we have to the front to create borders for what will eventually be a garden — this will be next year but the layout is happening this year — once agian this helps out with the overall appeal of the exterior of the house and helps deminish our ghetto house score.
On the geeky web front I almost completed the design for my not-so-top-secret top secret site. I’m currently in the coding phase of it. It’s the first time I’ve done something this route (and I can’t say more than that without giving too much away) but it’s coming along nicely and I think the mock up anyway is one of the nicer designs I’ve done. I wanted to have this finished as well as a redesign of the now outdated Murderfly Multimedia web site completed this weekend but that simply didn’t happen so now I’m aiming for these two sites to be completed by Friday.
I have some other posts preplanned to put up as well which are more geeky in nature but just something I want in writing — more my thoughts on things then anything and just seeing where others stand in that respect. I’m also going to nitpick some of my own sites considering I nitpicked the new Steelback Centre site and I think it’s only fair.
That’s all for now — I’m trying to keep on a post per day output for the blog now so when I can’t fully think of ideas or something useful to say I’ll just give these nice review posts.

I could be wrong, but I believe the name for the little hellicopter things are “keys”…I forget the type of tree they come from, but I recall the term “key” as a reference. And all that recalling hurt a bit.

The keys come from maple trees. When you look up maple key in google you see the definition of “Samara”, which is: Fruit of certain trees, such as maples and elms. Samaras have a seed and a “wing.” Sometimes they are called “keys” because their shape is similar to the shape of a key. The wing helps the seed travel by wind, since it is wide and lightweight and catches the air.
So ya we’ll call them helicopters, much easier.

Jer and I vacuumed up 3 shop vacs full of helicopter keys this spring/summer. That doesn’t include the amount that we took out of the pool.

Sweet, we filled about 6 brown yard waste bags with those helicopter things and at $.42/copter it’s looking like I no longer need to save to get to Green Bay. Thanks Ross!
