Photo Gallery: Startlefish Live at the Speak Easy

Startlefish played the Speak Easy on Saturday night to a small but receptive audience. I took this time out to experiment with a different lens. I usually shoot with my Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 but for this show I only used my Canon 50mm f/1.8.
I liked the fact that with the set focal length lens that I was using I was able to keep focus on the main subject and blur out the background. Seeing as the event was at the Speak Easy the background was black, the stage is also quite large there so the opportunities for the blurred other member of the band shot that I like to take wasn’t as abundant as in some smaller venues. I still need some work with this lens as some shots that I’d want to take weren’t possible because I was either too close or too far away, more movement is definitely needed.
For this show Startlefish enlisted the help of Miguel Gauthier as Ed was not available for the show. Miguel runs Stereo Soul Studios and is currently recording Startlefish’s second CD.

You’re going to have to teach Bryan (Heather’s husband) how to take some photos some time. I sold him the Nikon D80 this past weekend. It seems like a great camera.
