Today I Almost Died

You read the title right. And it wasn’t one of those “I was almost swiped by a car” or “I almost impaled myself on a rake if I fell off my garage” type things. This was close, it was one of those “If Jes wasn’t there I just might have choked to death… or is it drowned?” type things.
Earlier today while I was taking a shower in my bathing suit as I often do (this is a PG rated blog you know) the water changed from hot to cold. I turned and faced the nozel head thing to direct the shower away from me and had some water in my mouth and instead of spitting it out I swallowed it but it went down my airway. Loud wheezing noises came out of me as I tried to breathe. Luckily Jes was in the bathroom at the time. She opened the curtain and asked if I was choking. More wheezing noises. Then she hit me in the back. More wheezing. She asked if I was choking again and what I was choking on. I was able to wheeze out the word water. From there she flung me around and sort of heimlicked me a couple of times causing the airway to free up. I was still coughing and choking a bit after this and still trying to catch my breath.
Jes’ comforting words were “Do you want a glass of water or some Gatorade?”
I just finished choking on water and she wanted me to drink something? Anybody else see any irony in this at all? (Did I just misuse the word irony to the likes of Alanis Morissette?)
Now a thought has occurred to me, was I choking or was I drowning?
According to Jes, I wouldn’t have died. But who knows, maybe it’s time to teach the hounds how to resuscitate me if it were to happen again and Jes isn’t around.
So there you have it. I almost drowned in the shower. People wonder why I don’t swim or don’t go in the water past my chest. I almost drowned in the freaking shower imagine what could happen to me in the middle of a lake.

Well, technically, you were choking… and you probably would have been fine when you passed out, since it was just water and there was nothing really to block your airway. When your muscles relaxed, you’d probably have been OK.
Of course… at that point, you could have also aspirated soem water into your lungs and then drowned.
Still scary, though, good thing she was there.

Ok this same thing happened to me yesterday. HELLO!! I was home by myself. I thought my number was up as I was facing the mirror looking at my red face with eyes bulging. I paniced and ran out of the shower, thinking that would help, somehow, I just closed my mouth as a last resort, and tried breathing through my nose, before I passed out, and it worked. I had to do a search on the internet, knowing I couldn’t be the only person in the world this has happened to. I have long hair and tilt my head back to rinse out the shampoo. Apparently alot of people tilt their head down and rinse forward. I can’t do that. Anyway glad I’m alive. I was thinking, this is it??? I die like f_cking this???? No way…..but I couldn’t catch my breath for nothing!
