History of a Camera: Writing Project

I’ll admit I’m borrowing the “writing project” idea from Problogger but the differences with this one are that I’ll probably have no one participating (besides myself) and instead of a single post I’m hoping for multiple posts from people.

What is the Group Writing Project?

The project’s title is History of a Camera. Now that we’re in the digital age and everyone and their grandmother has a digital camera I thought it’d be nice to see the history of them. Basically my Canon 20D has ran over it’s one year in use mode shooting over 7700 photos and I thought it would be interesting to go back and see a snapshot of what the camera achieved.

How do we do it?

Basically if you have a digital camera of some sort and have it automatically numbering your pictures (and you don’t overwrite the names or you haven’t reset it’s numbering recently) you can participate. The plan for myself is to take the picture found at each hundred, if for whatever reason I deleted the “hundred” picture I’ll move to the next closest. As a stopper from “choosing” what picture you want to post however you must take the lower number photo. For example, if you’re looking at for file IMG_0200 but you do not have that but have IMG_0201 and IMG_0199 you must take IMG_0199.

Do I have to post “that” picture?

The fun part of this project is seeing where you were with your photography and where you are now. If the picture is of questionable material or you do not think the subject of the photo wants to be posted move to the next closest photo. But showing the blurs, the offsets the misshots etc adds to the fun of the project.

Who is participating?

At this moment just myself. I’m hoping others will get involved and if you do let me know. I’ll create a list of those participating as well as a post tracker so others can follow along with our process. I know numerous of you out there take photos and I also know your blogs are becoming stagnant lately, why not create some content, get new visitors and also find new blogs all at the same time.

Looking for a logo-ish type thing

I’m currently being lazy. If anyone wants to make a little logo for the project (not sure if one is even necessary) feel free to do so. We can then post it on our blogs as another way of spreading the word.

My first post will be coming shortly (I just need to resize the photos for the web). I’m grabbing all of my pictures at intervals of 100 and I plan on posting ten per post (just to get you on your way).

EDIT: I made a simple logo that you can now see in my sidebar. I’ll create a separate page for the project shortly which will also feature everyone participating (so start participating).Ã? For the moment the logo links to this post but when the other page is up it will link there.

i’ve renamed my images from the get go. but i think the queen has a copy of one of the first shots i’ve ever taken. horrible of course. it was a shot of my bike in my back yard!!

The renaming seems to be semi-common. Maybe I’m just lazy.

Hmm, depending how your pics are sorted/stored you might be able to do an order on date created/modified or something like that but then there’s lots of manual counting needed and things of that nature.

I’d love to participate… unfortunately my camera and memory card have been ‘borrowed’ by a friend (rab, tell dip’er to gimme!) and he’s had it for longer than one can reasonably say something is ‘borrowed’…..
