Juried Art Event: Voters Have Spoken

After just over a day and a half I tallied up all of the votes and printed 3 pictures in the 8×12 format.

I did do some creative counting for the submissions and I am submitting the first, second and fourth place vote getters. I wanted to submit a “rock” shot as that’s what I mainly do.

In total I had 28 people give me their opinion on what they wanted to see.

In first place with 19 votes, I give you the microphone:
Stereo Soul Studios - Microphone

In second place, running to catch up with 17 votes, Domino:
Domino Basset Hound

And in fourth place, singing a song of excitement with 8 votes, Frank:
Frank Deresti - Granola People

The third place finisher had 11 votes but also received mixed reactions of “I really like it” to “you have better shots in that group than what you posted”, I give you Kerboombaboombang:
Fourth of July Firworks Sault Ste. Marie

A special thank you to everyone who voted and helped me out with this. I do have the pictures printed (thanks Sandra!) and I’m now trying to figure out where to go to help me get them matted. I had a plan A place (which was also plans B through Z) but that fell through. I received a business card for another place but they seemed to be closed and have a phone that continually rings. So if anyone out there is able to make matte paper, cut it to the size I need and fit my pictures into it I’d be extemely thankful. In return I’ll give you an autographed napkin and maybe a Taco Bell mild sauce packet.

Also I’m not too sure how these get submitted besides handing them into the art gallery but if each photo needs a caption or title I would like to submit something good.Ã? So go ahead and give me your best captions for each shot.

I am extremely happy with your first two picks for the competition, and I think your titles for them are contained in what you wrote in this post…”the microphone” and “running to catch up”…

Although I like the photo of Frank because it is indeed a great shot of him, I feel you have taken other “rock” photos that have captured “a moment”. I don’t want to come across as insulting to anyone, but this live band shot of yours is not one of my favourites. It is a GREAT shot, however.

Shit, I sound like a critical bitch.

Check the dollar store for matts, Curt. I’ve bought several different sizes there, though every store seems to stock something different.

Recently I had a print sent to me I thought nice enough to frame, but didn’t want to go to a framing place. I bought two matts (about 5$ each) that overlapped and set off the colours in the print nicely, then found a frame (about $15) at Wal-Mart.

Black’s often has quit a selectio of pre-cut matts as well. I used to buy quit a bit from there. They even have 8×12…if you dig around from them…

    And my problem is solved.

My plan A..Z business card panned out today. For $45 CDN I had mattes cut and some foam board for the backing. I just finished putting the pictures into the frames now and they look pretty good. Definitely better than when they were just sitting out by themselves.

    Thanks again to everyone.

ps good luck at the art event :)

  6. Cujo Says:

Sorry Gill, no prizes for you. Unless I become some crazy rich person then maybe you’ll get a scratch ticket or something.

And thanks for the well wishes.
