Disappearing Act

Toronto Street Car

For anybody following the site I haven’t been around since about mid-July. I’ve done quite a bit since then but nothing really worthy of updating — or maybe there was and I just didn’t as time did not permit.

From mid-July until the past Saturday photography was on a stand still and other things took over. Here’s my quick version of what has happened since then.

We’ve remodeled the front of the house — new stairs, siding and a coat of paint. It looks a lot better. Fozzie and Domino became even more famous locally with mentioning in a Sootoday article as well as winning the Soonews Pet of the Week a few weeks back.

I printed off three of my past photos and framed them but we’re still trying to find a suitable location to hang them. Two of the photos printed may be found at white matte.

And to wrap it all up I just returned this morning from 5 days in the big metropolis of Toronto. I was there for work but also got in a lot of play in which some of it will be featured in some upcoming posts on the site. The lead photograph of this story is a picture I took on Yonge St on Saturday night when Rob and Sasha came into town and we went on a photo journey in the big city. You’ll notice Rob’s leading picture is the same street car, same corner and same guy crossing the street — it’s great taking photos at the same time as someone else to see each other’s results.

I also tweaked the photo a bit playing with it in Lightroom; switched it to greyscale and modded some tones etc. I’m going to be experimenting a bit more in this area of photography as it’s something I haven’t touched in my initial two years of becoming a photographer. I think tweaking can go so far before you’re not working with a photograph anymore and it becomes digital art (I also hate airbrushing anything).

And to conclude my lengthy short update on Monday I took a bus, subway and train to reach different locations that I wanted to get to. For those of you living in a large city this isn’t a big deal but for me who won’t even take the bus locally here (we don’t have a subway or train system) it felt good to be able to know I can get around through these other means of transportation.
